Institute Overview

The PA Governor's Institute for Educators in Construction Technology Careers was a week-long, professional development course for academic and career and technology educators who are interested in preparing students for modern technical careers in the Commonwealth. This institute, also known as the Construction Institute, aimed to help teachers
  • Recognize the importance of academic and occupational standards to construction technology careers
  • Know how to research about state, regional and local construction data and resources
  • Evaluate a current model to integrate academic and occupational standards
  • Plan local techniques to teach standards and improve student learning through two-way curriculum integration
The institute was planned and coordinated by the Pennsylvania State University Center for Professional Personnel Development in Career and Technical Education http://voc.ed.psu.edu, in conjunction with the Penn State Workforce Education and Development Program http://www.ed.psu.edu/wfed. The institute on construction was one of eight similar institutes coordinated by PA Department of Education Bureau of Career and Technical Education http://www.pde.psu.edu/voced/index.html during summer, 2001. It is part of the Pennsylvania Department of Education's comprehensive plans http://www.teaching.state.pa.us/teaching/site/default.asp to ensure that the Commonwealth's educators have skills to prepare our youth for tomorrow.
