Since the Fall issue of the WEF was published in December, a number
of planned changes in the WEF editorial and distribution process have
been completed. The manuscript submission and review process has now been
successfully converted to e-mail, and the WEF Policy Manual has been extensively
revised. Oversight for the journal is now entirely the responsibility
of the trustees, freeing the editorial board to give their full attention
to the manuscript solicitation and review process. Under the new WEF policy,
the size of the editorial board has been reduced from 12 members to between
8 and 10 members. Four board members are retiring and two new members
are joining the board. On behalf of the WEF trustees, I wish to thank
Peter Bordi, Dorothy Chappel, Dawn Holly, and Aldo Jackson for their dedicated
service over the past several years. New to the editorial board are Brenda
Martin and Linda Martinez.
With the WEF endowment supplemented with paid subscriptions now sufficient
to cover the cost of publication, the practice of providing complimentary
subscriptions to state and national leaders in workforce education is
being expanded. Readers are encouraged to nominate such leaders to be
added to our complimentary subscription list. Selected undergraduate and
graduate students in the Workforce Education and Development program at
Penn State will also be receiving complimentary copies of the journal
as resources are available.
Another recent change to the WEF publication process is the addition of
a WEF web page. The space for the web page is being provided by the Professional
Personnel Development Center (PPDC) in the Workforce Education and Development
program at Penn State. This change is still evolving, but starting with
this issue the entire content of the WEF will be available at http://cte.ed.psu.edu/inhere/PPDC_publications.html.
The 1998 WEF article that describes the history of the OEF/WEF can also
be found there. As time and resources permit, back issues of the OEF/WEF
will also be added to the web site.
Readers of this issue will note that it contains all three types of manuscripts
publishable in the WEF: research or conceptual, opinion pieces and book
reviews. We hope among these three sections that you find something of
interest. Also, we encourage you to consider contributing to one of these
sections in future issues.
